AUDREY E. PIERCE HUME
Audrey, the daughter of Charles Walter and Stella Hensley Pierce, was born in Rhyolite, Nevada, on May 27, 1909. The family came to Kirkland in 1911, where they farmed.
She rode five miles on horseback to Walnut Grove School, accompanied by the teacher, who boarded with her family. Audrey attended Sacred Heart Academy in Prescott and graduated from Tempe Normal School in 1927. She taught at Skull Valley and Lincoln schools.
Audrey married John L. Hume, and the couple had two children, Shari and Richard. "She seemed to run things at the Hume's Home Bakery," Dixon Fagerberg recalled. Her always pleasant and caring ways and her loyalty to her family and friends were remembered in her obituary.
Audrey belonged to the Mothers' Club of Prescott. She taught at Sunnyslope School and in Scottsdale before she retired in 1974.
Audrey died on August 31, 1981, and was buried in Arizona Pioneers' Cemetery.
