CLARA TOWNSEND BECKERS VROOM
Clara was born on December 18, 1863, in Burnett County, Texas, and came to Arizona with her parents, Elizabeth and John Bennett Townsend. Her father was an old frontiersman and Indian fighter. They settled in the Agua Fria region first and then moved to a cattle ranch in Miller Valley.
Clara married George T. Beckers and had two children, one of whom was Mrs. Grant Merrill. She secured an absolute divorce from Beckers in 1879 and received custody of their children.
On September 20, 1891, Clara married Albert T. Vroom. They lived on Copper Basin Road and at 412 N. Virginia Street. Her mother Elizabeth and her sister, Ora French, are also represented in the Rose Garden. Clara belonged to the Latter Day Saints Church.
Clara died in June 1954 in the Arizona Pioneers' Home and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery.
