She married Earl Edwards, and they homesteaded on the Agua Fria River. Her husband died in September 1935.

The mother-of-pearl inlay Singer sewing machine in the Bashford House was donated by Ethel, whose grandmother brought it to Arizona in a covered wagon. Her mother Virginia Lessard and her sister, Elva Breckenridge, are also represented in the Rose Garden.

Ethel died on November 4, 1979, leaving a daughter, Rhoda Diskin. Ethel is buried in Mountain View Cemetery.
