Territorial Women's Memorial Rose Garden
Mary Ann was born in Houghton, Michigan, in 1858, the daughter of John T. Martin. Marian married Thomas Jefferson Sparkes, one of Arizona's honored pioneers, in the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1884.

Mary Ann's and Tom's children, Grace and Charity Bones, were both very young when they went first to Alaska and then came to Arizona. Thomas invested in several local mines in Pinal County.

Mary later had two sons: Thomas and John. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. Both her daughters are represented in the Rose Garden.

Mary Ann died on March 14, 1917, in Evanston, Illinois, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery.
