Territorial Women's Memorial Rose Garden
Born August 27,1888, in Texas, Melena came to Arizona by wagon train in 1897 when her family settled in Brown Springs near Camp Verde. She married William West.

In 1914, the Wests moved to Dewey. Melena and William had three sons: Irving C., Alvin N. and Everett C., and two daughters, Mary Maude See and Dovie Evans.

Melena was Noble Grand Matron of the Western Star Rebekah Lodge #9 in Prescott and a member of the Yavapai County Cowbelles.

Melena died on October 8, 1971, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery.
