Blue Rose Theater

Blue Rose Theater, under the direction of Jody Drake, formed a partnership with the Sharlot Hall Museum in 1994. Over the years, Jody has authored 26 original scripts performed by the Theater.

The Blue Rose Theater has produced 6 royalty productions and 33 guest and music presentations, including a historical recreation of the first production to be held at the new Elks Opera House one hundred years ago.

The theater has a well respected youth program and a broad community outreach. Special programs presented over the years include Rose Garden Girls, Lamplight Tours, Wicked Wednesdays and a Creekside Walk. The Blue Rose Theater troupe has performed for two Governors, many State conferences, and retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Conner.

Arizona Music: All Folked Up

A series of seven folk-music concerts dedicated to Arizona artists at Sharlot Hall Museum’s Blue Rose Theater, 415 W. Gurley St., Prescott. Call 928-445-3122 for tickets ($12 for Museum members, $14 for non-members, $5 under 18).

Saturday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m.: The popular duo D-Squared, a harp & guitar duo whose music features poignant lyrics, earth-rooted melodies and stark, hypnotic rhythms.

February 27 at 7:30 p.m.: Three-Legged Dog - Americana and roots trio on Dobro, banjo, cello, accordion, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and bass.


March 27 at 7:30 p.m.: Whistle Stop - high-powered family band specializing in traditional bluegrass and bluegrass gospel.


April 24 at 7:30 p.m.: Linda Bilque - keen story-songs that mine the common heart for the uncommon story.


May 29 at 7:30 p.m.: The Silver Thread Trio - stunning three-part harmonies by three talented young women who specialize in breathing new life into the American folk catalog.

June 26 at 7:30 p.m.: Close Enough String Band - old-time porch music à la Carter Family, lush 3- and 4-part harmonies featuring fiddle, banjo, bass, mandolin, guitar, autoharp and musical saw.

July 31 at 7:30 p.m.: Hans Olson - deep-rooted Western blues and originals by an Arizona legend.

Sharlot Hall Museum’s Blue Rose Theater presents an original historical play written by Parker Anderson. “Arizona’s Whiskey Chaplin” tells the fascinating story of Henry Fleury, who arrived in the Arizona Territory with the first Governor’s Party. He was a major influence on the development of the Territory and someone of notable character. This original play tells the story of Charlie Genung, his wife and 10 children who settled in Peeples Valley in the 1870s. Written by Jody Drake, the story incorporates both great comedy and drama involving Genung and his wife. Much of the story unfolds through Genung’s great-grandson as he learns of Genung’s travels and adventures while pulling artifacts out of Genung’s old trunk.  Blue Rose Theater, 415 W.
