Prescott Indian Art Market
16th Annual Prescott Indian Art Market
July 13 & 14 2013
The 16th annual Prescott Indian Art Market will be held on the cool grounds of the Sharlot Hall Museum on July 13th and 14th. The shady museum gardens provide an inviting backdrop for the impressive display of Indian art.
The market features distinctive jewelry, exquisite ceramics, sculpture, paintings, and hand-woven baskets and blankets. Highlights this year include the participation of five Navajo rug weavers and an amazing sand painter. American Indian artists jury the artists who produce traditional and contemporary artwork. This festival has grown in reputation and quality to become one of the Southwest’s premier Indian-art markets.
Visit with the artists and observe the processes involved in creating their work. Walk among American Indian demonstrators as they weave baskets and rugs, carve Katsina dolls, and hammer silver. Observe the making of baskets and rock art. Entertainment is provided throughout the weekend in the outdoor amphitheater by Native American dancers, singers and musicians. A popular market feature is its mouth-watering Navajo fry bread.
This year’s multiple award-winning featured artist is Gerry Quotskuyva, a member of the Bear Strap Clan from the Second Mesa Village of Shungopavi. His amazing blend of traditional and contemporary designs can be seen in his Katsina Carvings (Cottonwood Root/Acrylic), Paintings (Acrylic on Canvas), Prints (Photographic & Giclee), Gournds (Gourd/Acrylic), Shields (Leather/Acrylic), and Wall & Table Mount Designs (Metal/Enamel).
Gerry has garnered numerous awards for his carvings and paintings and we at Sharlot Hall Museum are honored to have him as our Featured Artist for our 16th annual Prescott Indian Art Market.
Hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday.
